WREGA TALK: Future Imaginings
WREGA TALK: Future Imaginings
On the 20th of April, my batch was required to go to this talk by multiple lecturers. It consists of three speakers: Chong Yan Chuah, Paul Koh (Kezerk Innovation), and Keith Song & Teoh Khah Swee (Mosesism).Fig. 1.1 |
Ms Sherry opened the talk with a greeting and a brief announcement on a website project called Kreatif Beats.
Why did it come about? With the onslaught of Western media's influence and the hype surrounding its various personalities, it was thought very important to begin talking about our own regional creations and creators. The scope was enlarged to include creative education, creative activitism, and/or the politics of design. The idea was considered by the Head of School and the Head of Research and Enterprise at Taylor's University. After some deliberation, the project was given the green light around April 2018.

The first speaker was craftsman Keith Wong of Mosesism, who creates elaborate wire jewellery. They have impressive headdresses and similar items of the like worn by models or those who want to stand out. For a more practical audience, they also appeal with bracelets and necklaces.

The next speaker was Chong Yan Chuah, who is a motion art designer with a background in architecture. He showed us a video displaying a fantasy world he created. He did not present much, however, so I am not very clear on what he actually does.
Lastly, there was Paul Koh, who integrates technology with audio and visuals to create satisfying and interactive advertisements. He also showed us a video on what he does, and gave us a sneak peek on a Sephora advertisement he was working on.
To conclude the talk, we had a Q&A session.
Overall I found what the speakers are doing is inspirational. Although the talks were a bit disappointing at times and I was lost on things they were speaking about here and there, I still found the talk informative.
